The Viking is a useful tool for Tribal raiding parties when attacking worlds with large oceans. They are deployed en mass beyond the enemy’s shores, and then swarm towards them to establish a beachhead.
It has a top speed of 60 knots, capable of quickly reaching land under heavy fire. It is fast enough to be too difficult for shore batteries to track, as well as being able to deliver their passengers before aerial or naval responses can be mustered.
Lightly armored for a ta’keshi vehicle, the Viking is built to withstand light anti vehicle fire, but not much more. They provide basic cover for their occupants until they deploy them on the shore.
The Viking can carry one vehicle, and up to 12 infantry in its armored passenger bay. They are deployed via a front loading ramp.
It is armed with a single 60mm autocannon to provide fire support for its troops. However, sustained combat will almost always result in the Viking’s destruction.
The decline of maritime combat in the modern era has actually contributed to the Viking’s success, as aquatic defenses become more and more of an afterthought. Colonies with significant bodies of water stand at risk of falling to old fashioned beach landings at the hands of the ta’kesh.
