Usually, the largest ships are the most powerful. Such is not the case with the Ultimatum-class. Used as a dedicated capital ship killer, the Ultimatum is often regarded as the deadliest class of ship in the Triumvirate Navy.
At 2,000 meters in length, it is far out massed by the battleships it was built to destroy. Its durability is limited, with only moderate armor and shields to protect it. It has an acceleration of 7 G’s, and has good maneuverability for a capital ship.
This agility is critical to the function of the Ultimatum’s primary weapon: a spinal mount ion lance cannon. This is the ship’s only antiship weapon; however, it is all it needs. The lance hits with a force rivaling that of most dreadnoughts’, drawing huge amounts of power from the ship’s quantum reactor.
While the lance is obscenely powerful, aiming a spinal weapon places certain movement constraints on the Ultimatum, which makes it difficult to effectively utilize in large-scale battles.
Though it lacks turret-mounted heavy weapons, the destroyer still carries point defense, in the form of 50 proton bolt turrets and 20 ion beam turrets.
The Ultimatum-class provides the Triumvirate Navy with most of its firepower. It may be a specialty vessel, but a flotilla of these ships will make the captain of a dreadnought quake in fear.
