It is often speculated that the chitai are organized into some sort of interconnected hive. What little information has been gleaned from encounters with them has been studied thoroughly by many of the galaxy’s top xenobiologists. They have tried to organize it as best they can, and are slowly piecing together the puzzle that is the Chitai Hive.
As far as can be seen, there is no real rank or social structure to the chitai. The different variations seem only to be divided by the different tasks they carry out, further indicating that the chitai seen are no more than instruments of some sort of queen-like figure.
Interestingly enough, there have lately been reports of unidentified chitai ship profiles being spotted. Instead of engaging like they normally would, these vessels end up retreating at the first sign of contact. Experts theorize that these are some sort of non-combatant support ships, though why they are seen without any sort of escorts remains a mystery.
There have also been unsubstantiated reports of chitai ships fighting one another. Many believe it to be nothing more than a story, those who lend credence tot he idea hypothsize that their may be more than one queen, and that they are vying for control of territory and resources.
There are many mysteries that continue to surround the Hive, and uncovering them has proven a long, costly, and often unproductive process. Scientists and defense officials are nonetheless dedicated to ending the chitai threat, and will do all in their power to bring the constant raids and attacks to a stop.
