The terons were the second race to take to the stars, though their rise was not natural. A synthetic species, the terons were built by the rai, whose fascination with life led them to try to create it themselves. Each teron is a single program, designed to be sentient and self-sufficient. When a new teron is created, it is given a wealth of knowledge from its designers, everything from scientific theory to politics to social interaction. The newly created teron is then allowed to choose its role in society, and is given a corresponding physical body to match. The most basic and prevalent body is a simple bipedal shape, similar to that of most races, but teron bodies can range from tiny maintenance units and aerial drones to massive factories and starships.
Terons actively try to socialize with other races, a remnant of their original rai programming. The terons were created to be equals, not subservient, so interaction with organics was highly encouraged. However, most species are wary of them, stories of rogue AI a common theme throughout many pre-spaceflight popular cultures. Undeterred, terons continue to attempt to connect with their flesh-and-blood neighbors, determined to prove that their existance is just as meaningful, no matter the circumstances of their creation.
