Used to supplement the Commonwealth’s already impressive point defense systems, the Spirit Interceptor is a long range, high-endurance fighter. It is armed with stand-off weapons and sophisticated sensor equipment, allowing it to eliminate threats at extreme range.
The Spirit’s primary armament consists of 12 Backlash long range missiles. These weapons have a range of 20,000 kilometers, able to intercept fighters and large ordnance before they get a chance to inflict damage on allied ships. For self defense, it carries a pair of 25 mm gyro cannons, allowing it to engage enemy fighters in dogfights if necessary.
The Spirit has light polarity shields, along with a thin layer of titanium composite armor. Though it is meant for long-range combat, it can dogfight if need be, and is protected as necessary. It has a maximum acceleration of 600 G’s, though it lacks the maneuverability of dedicated dogfighters.
These lightning fast interceptors are nearly impossible to overwhelm, as a single squadron of them can stop entire salvos of missiles and torpedoes, as well as wipe out waves of fighters and bombers. They work with the CIWS of Commonwealth warships to weave a nearly impenetrable shield around their fleet.
