The rai are the oldest race in the galaxy, having been the first to discover space flight and master interstellar travel. Long since having come together under a single ideology, the rai are united by their religious beliefs. Rai believe that all life is sacred, and every action an individual takes must be for the preservation and betterment of as many living beings as possible.
Their reverence of life eventually led them to attempt to create it themselves. Before any other species joined the galactic stage, the rai began working on a form of artificial life. While making physical bodies was simple, crafting a truly sentient artificial intelligence was a far more complicated process. Eventually, they were successful in creating not only sentient life, but AI that could think individually. This resulted in the birth of a race of synthetic lifeforms, the terons, who were allowed to leave and form their own society.
Rai possess a vaguely apelike gait and posture. They have long, flexible arms that, unlike most other species, contain far more muscle mass than their legs, so they often will walk on all fours. Fairly dimunitive, rai are generally around three feet tall when on all fours, and about four feet when standing upright. Their skin is generally a light shade of grey, and their eyes are black and pupilless.
