The standard scout ship of the ISP Navy, the Mustang was designed to be a high-endurance patrol vessel, scouring the edges of the Perseus Arm for trespassers. Fast and self-sufficient, this cutter is a formidable foe for pirates and raiders.
At 400 meters in length, the Mustang-class is the smallest starship in the ISP Navy, armed with only one railgun turret for disabling pirate freighters and corvettes. For self-defense, the Mustang has 10 point defense rotary cannons, but heavy fighter or missile assault will quickly overwhelm them. Lacking heavy armor plating, and only lightly shielded, the Mustang-class is not meant to take heavy fire.
Where the Mustang performs well is speed. It has a powerful jumpdrive, allowing it to quickly cover billions of kilometers of territory. Even below lightspeed, the ship is very quick, with a maximum acceleration of 12 G’s, faster than any other capital ship in the ISP Navy.
The Mustang’s biggest asset is its compact drone hangar, which can store and launch up to 50 Dragonfly Recon Drones, used to help it keep an eye on large plots of space. These drones are equipped with their own FTL jump drives, allowing them to extend the Mustang’s vision by millions of kilometers.
An important part of the ISP’s defense system, the Mustang acts as both a safety net for preventing pirates and smugglers into their territory, and an early-warning system against possible invasion by a hostile fleet.
