While the Commonwealth has little need for aquatic forces, they still need a way to enforce order on their seas. While their starships and aircraft are technically capable of filling this role, it was deemed more sustainable and cost-efficient to design a watercraft to handle it instead.
The Marlin is a small patrol vessel, 25 feet in length. Capable of reaching a maximum speed of 20 knots, the Marlin is ideal for the interdiction of waterborne pirates and rebels. The Marlin is heavily armed for its size, carrying a turret-mounted 35 mm gyro cannon, perfect for perforating peer craft. In addition, it is armed with two anti-infantry railguns for defensive measures. As a final touch, it comes equipped with four anti-tank missiles, which can be used against heavily armored targets both at sea and ashore.
Though hardly a match for full-size aquatic warships, Marlins can be deadly when used in conjunction with heavier forces, such as gunships and starships.
