As the ISP increases its territory, its military leadership has decided to expand its wet navy to better defend new worlds with large bodies of water. As such, the need for full sized warships has mandated the design of the Mako-class Destroyer, a multi-purpose vessel capable of surface, anti-submarine, and anti-aircraft warfare.
Armored with starship-grade composite armor and protected by a heavy duty polarity shield, the Mako can withstand heavy punishment from capital weapons for a ship of its size. It has a maximum speed of 47 knots, allowing it to hunt down and destroy enemy vessels.
The vessel is fairly small, only 70 meters in length; as such, its armament is somewhat limited. Its primary weapon is a dual 550 mm railgun, equivalent in firepower to the turrets mounted aboard ISP stellar warships. For combatting submersible threats, it is armed with a quad torpedo turret, mounted just behind the the railgun, and two point defense torpedo pods mounted underneath the waterline for defending against sub-fighters and torpedoes. Anti-fighter/missile operations are carried out by the ship’s four 25 mm rotary cannons.
As part of its electronic warfare package, the Mako has an internal storage bay for 50 SD-25 Dragonfly recon drones, unmanned scout planes used to extend the destroyer’s range far beyond that of its sensor suite. These drones are able to relay firing coordinates for the dual railgun, as well as keep the crew informed of any obstacles or contacts outside of the range of the ship’s sensors.
The Mako-class is a lethal ship for its size, presenting a highly effective deterrent for the deployment of submersible units against the ISP. These warships can be found on most ISP colonies, helping defend them from both local and exterior threats.
