The Iron-class is the backbone of the Commonwealth Navy. Heavily armed and armored, it is designed specifically for ship-to-ship combat, unlike smaller vessels that act primarily as patrol ships. Whether leading flotillas of support ships or escorting dreadnoughts, the Iron is a strong presence in Commonwealth territory.
At 1,750 meters long, the Iron-class dwarfs the navy’s patrol ships. It is heavily armed, its primary armament being a 2,000 mm spinal mass driver cannon, used to bombard targets at long range. Secondary weapons consist of 18 anti-ship missile launchers, used for medium range combat, and three triple torpedo turrets, which augment the ship’s long range capability. Defensive batteries include 40 point defense missile pods, and 50 sand cannons. Its thick graphene armor and powerful polarity shields offer protection from heavy antiship weapons, and it is capable of reaching a top acceleration of 6.1 G’s.
As the primary warship of the Commonwealth, the Iron-class can be seen on every Commonwealth world, ready to defend their territory from outside invasion.
