Pressed with the need to quickly map out alien landscapes, the ISP expedionary forces introduced the Hermes Recon Drone. Much less expensive than using starcraft, the Hermes is a small, man-portable drone meant to quickly traverse uncharted territory, sending data back to its team as it explores.
A quadrotor design, the Hermes is capable of reaching up to 116 miles per hour, though it usually cruises at around 70 in order to get detailed images of the territory it is surveying. It has a high resolution camera mounted on the underside of its airframe, capable of recording in both the normal wiewing spectrum and in thermal imaging.
Not particularly durable or stealthy, the Hermes was not designed with combat in mind. It can be pressed into service spying on potential threats, but it sees far more use fulfilling its intended role of simply observing static landscapes.
The Hermes is an important part of any expeditionary team, allowing explorers to cover vast swaths of territory much more easily then simply looking from the ground, and for far less money then equipping them with aircraft.
