Developed specifically to deal with torpedoes and sub-fighters, the Defender-class is a defensive submarine used to guard Triumvirate ships against underwater attack. It is highly specialized, lacking any effective offense against large targets such as submarines and surface ships.
80 meters in length, the Defender is large, but not particularly durable, as it lacks shields or heavy armor. A slow speed of 23 knots means it cannot outrun its attackers, so it must rely on stealth and escorts to avoid destruction.
The Defender is armed with four dual torpedo pods mounted on swiveling turrets. The micro torpedoes they fire have tiny impulse thrusters that give them excellent maneuverability, allowing them to intercept fast underwater targets.
As the Triumvirate’s only defense against sub-fighters and torpedoes, no maritime fleet travels without a Defender-class. These submarines are excellent escort vessels, able to coordinate with Ursa-class cruisers to completely nullify underwater threats.
