The Corvus-class is the smallest vessel in the Republic Navy. Fast and maneuverable, it acts as a courier, patrol ship, and fast combatant.
The Corvus is 200 meters long, and is exceptionally fragile. Its shields are lackluster, and its armor is thin to save mass. While this means that it takes relatively little firepower to destroy it, the trick for the enemy lies in hitting it. The Corvus has a maximum acceleration of 20.4 G’s, faster than any capital ship in the galaxy. In addition, it has a network of oversized impulse thrusters instead of the fewer, larger maneuvering thrusters found on most capital ships. This setup allows the Corvus to make hairpin turns and rapid changes in acceleration that no other capital ships can manage.
In terms of armament, the Corvus-class carries two dual plasma cannons for anti-capital actions. By itself, a Corvus only uses these weapons as a defense against other capital ships, and to combat other corvettes. However, when travelling in wolfpacks in a pitched, fleet-scale battle, multiple Corvus corvettes can dish out punishing volleys of fire against enemy capital ships, their high degree of agility making them difficult targets for retaliatory fire. For defensive purposes, it carries four quad pulse laser turrets, allowing it to hunt down enemy strike craft and gunships during battle.
Though smaller and weaker than most ships, the Corvus-class has proven itself many times as a capable and versatile ship, used throughout the Sagittarius Arm to keep the Republic fleet running smoothly and aware of any activity taking place around them.
