For large-scale incursions on Triumvirate worlds, Marine forces are deployed en masse to intervene. They are sent to a planet’s surface from orbiting starships, riding down in Cavalry-class ships that are designed to withstand fighter attack and light anti-orbital fire.
The Cavalry-class can hold up to 20,000 soldiers, and a few thousand tanks and light vehicles. It can deploy dropships during its descent to put troops on the ground before it lands, securing a safe perimeter and neutralizing any anti-air defenses. It packs heavy armor and energy shields for weathering fire during planetary approaches. While the foes of the Triumvirate rarely have the firepower to warrant such defenses, it ensures that their troops will always reach their destination, no matter who they are facing.
Heavily armed for a transport, the Cavalry carries three capital-grade proton bolt cannons, used for bombarding hostile ground forces during landings. They can be used against starships, but are generally outmatched by dedicated warships. For defense, it has 20 ion beam turrets, useful not only for dfending itself, but also proving cover for its forces as they deploy.
The Cavalry-class is large for a transport, 1,500 meters in length. As such, it is somewhat slow, only capable of a max acceleration of 11 G’s. It is still fast enough to outrun most warships, but small corvettes and cutters are a serious threat to it.
The Calvalry-class is an imporant tool in the elimination of large-scale pirate and criminal threats. When faced with unprecedented offensive actions, the Triumvirate Army will respond with overwhelming force, delivered via the Cavalry-class.
