The sub-fighter was the first implement of submarine warfare that the sestans ever developed. The technology carries forward to the present, culminating in the Barracuda, the latest in the line of sub-fighters produced by the Verran Republic.
Fast, agile, and sleek, the Barracuda has a top speed of 75 knots, capable of easily outrunning larger warships. It is poorly armored, and lacks shields, but is nearly impossible to hit with most underwater weapons, usually requiring specialized torpedoes to destroy.
The Barracuda packs a pair of light plasma shell repeaters, which fire unguided plasma warheads, streamlined for underwater use. They also carry twenty light torpedoes, used for attacking warships and dogfighting with other sub-fighters.
Though they see limited use, Barracudas pose a serious threat in naval combat, their speed and lethality an unprecedented problem for more traditional wet navies. Other nations have begun to research their own counters to such technology, but until the competition is ready, the Barracuda is the uncontested ruler of the depths.
