In maritime combat, the Rai Collective uses the same doctrine they use in exoatmospheric warfare. They utilize carrier groups with defensive fightercraft and offense provided by smaller escorts. The smallest escort the Collective have is the ADX Destroyer, a dedicated anti-surface and anti-submarine warship.
The ADX is 100 meters long, and has an impressive top speed of 55 knots. It is armed with a magstream cannon as its antiship armament, capable of dealing heavy damage to hostile vessels at long-range. For anti-submarine warfare, the rai use a powerful sonic cannon that projects a concentrated burst of sound, amplified by the water. This weapon tears apart hulls with ease, and is lethal against both submersibles and surface ships. As the cannon is mounted under the waterline, this tends to add a large amount of drag, drastically slowing the ADX down when it is deployed for anti-submarine operations.
The ADX has three electron cannons for point defense, but generally relies on the protection of its carrier’s fightercraft against missile and air attack. The ship is poorly armored and shielded as well, and must count on its superior weapons range and the defenses provided by the rest of the carrier group to win engagements. For defense against sub-fighters and torpedoes, it carries two light sonic turrets to complement its heavier sonic cannon.
These destroyers play a critical role in a carrier group’s defense, as the only craft able to hunt and destroy submersibles. There is not a single Collective carrier that travels without a few ADX destroyers watching its back.
